Hurst Green Singers
Hurst Green Singers is a friendly group of young and not so young singers. We perform three concerts a year, two in the summer (jointly with Shoreham Singers) and the other in December, all of which are well attended.
The Choir, which meets regularly in term time on Tuesday evenings in St. John’s Church, Hurst Green, at 8.00 for 8.15pm, is currently thriving, with some sixty members, but new members are always welcome. There are no auditions, but a willingness to learn and the ability to read music are a great advantage, although not essential when you start as you can pick it up quite quickly.
In 2006 the Choir performed Handel’s Solomon in the summer and at Christmas Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine. In 2007 the Summer Concert included a performance of Mozart’s Great C Minor Mass (quite a challenge for amateur choirs but a huge success on this occasion) and Fauré’s Requiem, accompanied by orchestra. The choir is currently rehearsing for its Christmas Concert, which will include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio Parts I & III, together with carols.
Occasionally members of the Choir are invited to sing at weddings and other events at churches and other venues in the area.
Why not come and give us a try? You can find how to get to St John’s Church on the map page and details of our schedule on the diary page.
