  • Regarding The Choir
  •

  • The Hurst Green Singers delighted the audience at Bawtree Hall with their performance of Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Haydn's Creation.
As a recent retiree form the Choir and my first attendance as a member of the audience, I had mixed feelings on how I would react. The Choir did not disappoint.
Their rendition of The Chichester Psalms, sung in Hebrew, was filled with passion. This challenging complicated work for all voice parts, percussionist, harpist, keyboard and the Conductor alike was delivered to perfection. The second movement, primarily based on Psalm 23, was particularly moving contributed to in no small part by a young treble soloist.

This was followed with a performance of The Creation – a wonderful interpretation of the Bible story. The choral singing was enhanced by a narration of the biblical account and gave an opportunity for Choir Members to sing recitatives, trios and be the narrators.

This concert was the Hurst Green Singers at its very best. Their conductor Dr James Meaders continues to inspire and encourage the Choir to take on new challenges. A Choir worthy of support.

I have attended the last two concerts of the Hurst Green Singers, as friends were performing, but consider myself a complete newcomer to choral music. I am now a convert!

I have been captivated by the collective and individual performances, the choice and variety of music, and the sheer enthusiasm of the singers. My total enjoyment of the concerts has been a revelation to me and I will be back for more (and this from an absolute beginner!). I can't recommend the concerts highly enough.

Having attended a very enjoyable "Come and Sing" and been thoroughly impressed at the skills of the Music Director in coaxing the best out of the choir, I was delighted to join Hurst Green Singers soon afterwards. From day one I was made to feel very welcome by my fellow sopranos and I have really enjoyed rehearsing and performing with the choir ever since. Jamie is inspirational and absolutely fantastic at teaching us the optimum way to sing each piece so we can be well prepared for our performances and proud of what we achieve together.

I love being a member of Hurst Green Singers. It's a real pleasure to spend time with such a friendly group who are all keen to make wonderful music together. Singing really is good for you and meeting up with the choir is a real highlight of each week.
